Title of bill
An act authorizing the commissioner of general services to sell certain land to Montefiore Medical Center
Purpose
To authorize the sale of state property located at 170 E. 210th Street in the Bronx, currently being utilized by the Office of Children and Family Services to operate a residential facility, to Montefiore Medical Center to be used to expand the Children's Hospital at Montefiore.
Summary of provisions
This bill enacts an unconsolidated provision to authorize the NYS Office of General Services to sell state property to Montefiore Medical Center, subject to the receipt and acceptance of a certified appraisal of the value of the property, in accordance with the provisions of Article 6-E of the Executive law, and contingent upon the relocation of the existing residential facility currently being operated at this site to a different and more appropriate site in the Bronx.
Justification
The Children's Hospital at Montefiore, established in 2001, has emerged as one of the finest children's hospitals in the country. The high growth in its impatient and outpatient volume has led Montefiore Medical Center to examine various options to expand the facility in a way that will maintain efficient and collaborative arrangements with its growing complement of pediatric experts. The current state facility located at this site, which provides residential services to children under the responsibility of the Office of Children and Family Services, provides one of the only options to expand this Children's Hospital. The facility, housed in a former Convent, could be relocated to another suitable site in the Bronx that has more mass transit connections. The sale of the property would be authorized after such existing facility has been relocated.
