Title of bill
An act to amend the environmental conservation law, in relation to allowing the use of rifles for hunting in Ontario county
Purpose
This bill would serve as a chapter amendment to legislative bills numbered A.7581-A and S.6057 of 2009 that when signed into law would allow the hunting of deer and bear through the use of a rifle in Ontario County by restricting same to the area within the county south of NYS Route 20.
Justification
Legislative bills A.7581-A and 5.6057 were passed by the Assembly and the Senate at the request of Ontario County that it be included in those areas where sportsmen and women are able to hunt deer and bear with rifles. Unfortunately, the legislation omitted the qualifying language "south of NYS Route 20" which was specifically referenced by the county and specifically referenced in the sponsors memoranda of the original bills. This chapter amendment would cure that omission and restrict rifle hunting to the more rural areas of Ontario County.
