Title of bill

An act to amend the environmental conservation law, in relation to exempting active duty military personnel from taking required hunting courses for purposes of obtaining a hunting license

Summary of provisions

This legislation amends section 11-0713 of the environmental conservation law by issuing a certificate of qualification in the required safety courses necessary to obtain a hunting license in New York State to active duty military personnel.

Those citizens of the state eligible for this exemption must be in active duty, meaning serving in or with a force of the organized militia with an active status, or be active in the military service of the United States as a member of the army, navy, air force or coast guard.

Justification

Members of the armed forces are trained extensively in the safe operation of fire arms. The safety courses required to be taken by the average citizen of New York State are not necessary of active duty military personnel since they have been recently trained. Exempting active duty military personnel from such hunting courses would be a much earned benefit for those people serving our country.
