Title of bill

An act to amend the tax law, in relation to providing certain benefits to veterans

Purpose

To provide active duty state and private employees soldiers with full civilian pay during overseas deployment.

Summary of specific provisions

Sections 1 through 7 provide various National Guard and reservist compensation tax credits to ensure that our states citizen soldiers receive full pay while on overseas deployment. Section 8 is the effective date.

Justification

Our men and women serving in the National Guard or reserves deserve unique benefits when being deployed overseas. Many of these individuals end up having a significant reduction in pay when they are sent oversees. As a result of the amount of time these individuals spend overseas they and their families often face significant financial struggles. No man or woman serving our State and Nation should ever have to worry about how their family back home is doing financially as a result of their deployment. This legislation will help financially protect veterans by providing tax credits to encourage employers to continue paying their employees.

Fiscal implications

To be determined.

Effective date

This act shall take effect immediately and shall be apply to taxable years beginning on or after January 1, 2010.
