Title of bill

An act relating to authorizing the village of Fair Haven to reduce the speed limit on certain public roadways

Purpose or general idea of bill

The purpose of this bill is to authorize the village of Fair Haven to reduce the speed limit on Westside Drive.

Summary of specific provisions

Section I; pursuant to section 1643 of the Vehicle and Traffic Law, the village of Fair Haven in the town of Sterling in Cayuga County would be authorized to lower the speed limit to 15 miles per hour on Westside Drive.

Justification

Westside Drive is a narrow village road that begins at the south end with King Road and meets Yacht Club Road at perpendicular angle. The road is populated by both year-round and seasonal residences. The road has been plagued by cars that use imprudent speed while utilizing the road as a route to the yacht club or as a through street back to West Bay Road. There are a number of residences with small children and the yacht club runs a junior sailing program through the summer months.
