Title of bill
An act to authorize the town of Kirkland, in the county of Oneida, to offer an optional twenty year retirement plan to police officers Christine M. Griffin, Horace T. Knight, Pete J. Cania and Wayne R. Smoulcey
Purpose
This bill will allow the town of Kirkland to elect to reopen the provisions of Sections 384-d and 384-e of the Retirement and Social Security law for four police officers.
Summary of provisions
Section one authorizes the town of Kirkland to offer an optional twenty year retirement plan with additional benefits to four police officers. Section two requires the town of Kirkland to bear all employer costs of offering such plan to these police officers. Section three is the effective date.
Justification
Under sections 384-d and 384-e of the retirement and social security law, police officers in the town of Kirkland are eligible to receive an optional twenty year retirement plan and additional benefits for members of such plan. Due to reasons not ascribable to four police officers in the town of Kirkland, such optional twenty year retirement plan and additional benefits were not offered to them. This legislation will correct this oversight and bring the retirement benefits of these officers in line with other police officers in the town.
