Title of bill

An act to amend the public authorities law, in relation to providing for the financing and construction of capital facilities for Broad Channel Volunteer Fire Department and Ambulance Corps, a not-for-profit corporation

Purpose or general idea of bill

This legislation will allow funding that has been allocated from the United States Department of Transportation to the Broad Channel Volunteer Fire Department and Ambulance Corps Inc., to be channeled through the New York State Dormitory Authority.

Summary of specific provisions

Section 1. Paragraph (b) of subdivision 2 of section 1676 of the public authorities law is amended by adding a new undesignated paragraph to read as follows:

Broad Channel Volunteer Fire Department and Ambulance Corps, Inc. for the purpose of providing construction related services in connection with the construction, reconstruction, improvement, renovation, development or expansion of facilities owned by Broad Channel Volunteer Fire Department and Ambulance Corps, Inc. located at 23 West 11th Road, Broad Channel, New York.

Section 2. Subdivision 1 of section 1680 of the public authorities law is amended by adding a new undesignated paragraph to read as follows:

Broad Channel Volunteer Fire Department and Ambulance Corps, Inc. for the purpose of providing construction related services in connection with the construction, reconstruction, improvement, renovation, development or expansion of facilities owned by Broad Channel Volunteer Fire Department and Ambulance Corps, Inc. located at 23 West 11th Road, Broad Channel, New York.

Justification

The U.S. Department of Transportation previously allocated $2 million to the Broad Channel Volunteer Fire Department and Ambulance Corps, Inc. for construction of a firehouse. At the recommendation of the New York State Department of Transportation, this legislation will allow for the funding to be channeled through the New York State Dormitory Authority so that the funds may be accessed by the Broad Channel Volunteer Fire Department and Ambulance Corps, Inc. and will allow for greater oversight by the Dormitory Authority.
