Title of bill
An act to amend the environmental conservation law, in relation to free sport fishing clinics
Purpose or general idea of the bill
To allow for the DEC to provide physical and/or emotional rehabilitation for veterans and current active duty members of the United States Armed Forces without the need to have a license, and to allow them to partake in free sport fishing clinics specifically aimed toward their rehabilitation.
Summary of specific provisions
Section 1 Subdivision 16 of Section 11-005 of the Environmental Conservation law as added by chapter 292 of the laws of 1996 and renumbered by section 2 of part f of chapter 82 of the laws of 2002.
Justification
Under current law, DEC is limited to only providing four free fishing clinics per region. This bill would allow DEC to offer additional free sport fishing clinics for our deserving past and present members of the armed forces who have made great sacrifices in the service of our nation.
By granting DEC the authority to increase the number of free classes for military veterans, it would provide another avenue for these individuals to release stress, regain motion, and spend time outdoors and with the community.
