BILL NUMBER:S7182A
Title of bill
An act to authorize the village of Cornwall-on-Hudson, in the county of Orange, to offer an optional twenty year retirement plan to certain police officers
Purpose
To allow the Village to make available to four officers, who, for reasons not ascribable to their own negligence failed to make timely applications to participate in such optional twenty year retirement plan.
Summary of provisions
Section 1: Authorizes the Village of Cornwall-on-Hudson to offer an optional twenty year retirement plan under section 384-d of the retirement and social security law to four police officers.
Section 2: All employer costs associated with implementing the provisions of this act shall be borne by the village of Cornwall-on-Hudson over a period of ten years.
Section 3: This act shall take effect immediately.
Justification
This legislation was requested by the Village of Cornwall-on-Hudson. Previous Village Assistant Treasurers had erroneously enrolled three part-time officers into NYS Retirement System (375i) and one part-time officer into NYS Retirement System (384) by failing to submit the application paperwork in a timely manner to enroll them into the (384d) program. This legislation will rectify this situation.
