Title of bill

An act to amend the vehicle and traffic law, in relation to authorizing distinctive license plates for members of the Air Medal Society

Purpose

To provide members of the Air Medal Society with distinctive license plates which recognize those in the armed forces who have distinguished themselves in aerial flight.

Summary of provisions

This act would amend Section 1 of the vehicle and traffic law by adding a new section 404x.

Justification

The service the United States military provides has been recognized on many levels honoring those who have proven themselves as heroes through acts of bravery and sacrifice. The Air Medal Society was founded to recognize men and women who have participated in military service and have accomplished great feats while in flight. By establishing a unique license plate for these men and women in New York State, the public would be better able to distinguish these honorable veterans and pay their respects for their heroic actions.

Legislative history

New bill.

Fiscal implications

There will be no cost to the state. The distinctive plate would be issued in the same manner as other number plates but in addition will include an annual service charge of $25. This annual service charge will be placed into the distinctive plate development fund which uses monies for the production, design, advertising, and marketing of distinctive license plates.

Effective date

180 days after becoming a law.
