Title of bill
An act to amend the real property tax law, in relation to authorizing certain state lands to taxation for school purposes in the county of Suffolk
Purpose
Relates to authorizing certain state lands to taxation for school purposes in the county of Suffolk.
Summary of provisions
Paragraph (f) of subdivision 1 of section 536 of the real property tax law, as added by section 1 of part W of chapter 62 of the laws of 2006, is amended.
Justification
Under current law, the Riverhead Central School District receives Payments in Lieu of Taxes (PILOT) for state owned lands with the Southampton Town portion of the Central Pine Barrens Core Preservation Area and also all state owned lands Within the Riverhead Town portion. This bill would require New York State to make PILOT payments to the Riverhead Central School District for all state owned lands in the Southampton Town portion of the Riverhead School District. It is not anticipated that this legislation will require a substantial appropriation from the State since a bulk of the district is within the Core Preservation Area of the Central Pine Barrens, an already receiving PILOT payments.
