BILL NUMBER:S7978

Title of bill

An act to amend the real property tax law, in relation to expanding the application of the exemption for solar, wind and farm waste energy systems

Purpose

This bill would extend the eligibility for the real property tax exemption for solar, wind and farm waste energy systems to systems constructed prior to January 1, 2016.

Summary of provisions

Section 1 of the bill amends subdivision 5 of section 487 of the real property tax law to change the expiration date of the real property tax exemption for solar or wind energy systems or farm waste energy systems from January 1, 2011 to January 1, 2016.

Section 2 of the bill provides for the effective date.

Justification

The very successful real property tax exemption program established for solar, wind and farm waste energy systems will expire on January 1, 2011. This bill would extend the exemption until January 1, 2016 thereby allowing solar, wind and farm waste energy systems to remain viable options for New York residents.
