An act to amend the social services law, in relation to the placement of homeless sex offenders in Suffolk county

Purpose or general idea of bill

Requires the Commissioner of the Suffolk County Department of Social Services to notify DCJS and the local law enforcement agency when a homeless sex offender is moved into temporary housing.

Summary of specific provisions

Adds a new subdivision 6 of section 136 of the Social Services Law which will require Social Services departments to notify local law enforcement agencies within 24 hours of placing a sexual offender in temporary emergency housing in that community.

When the Suffolk County Department of Social Services house sexual offenders in temporary emergency housing, often at various locations, local law enforcement authorities should be made aware of the names and whereabouts of those offenders.
