Title of bill

An act in relation to transportation maintenance contracts of the North Collins Central School District

Purpose

Relates to the transportation contracts for North Collins Central School District.

Summary of provisions

This bill legalizes transportation agreements made by North Collins Central School District during the 2006-07 school year.

Justification

The North Collins Central School District made an error in submitting transportation contracts for the 2006-07 school year, and as a result, the State Department of Education did not approve them. North Collins Central School District is located in the rural town of North Collins. The school district puts its transportation maintenance services out to bid every year. Due to the rural nature of the town, usually only one bid is received and upon that bid's approval by the school district's Board of Education, the bid proposal and agreement is used in lieu of a formal signed contract. In order for this agreement to be eligible for state transportation aid, they must now be validated through special legislation. Failure to receive reimbursement of the transportation contract costs would create undue fiscal hardship to the school district.
