Title of bill

An act to amend the public authorities law, in relation to prohibiting the imposition of a toll on intra-borough bridges

Summary

Amends section five hundred fifty-three of the public Authorities Law by adding a new subdivision twelve-a, prohibiting the imposition of a toll or fee for the use of any intra-borough bridge.

Justification

To require a toll on an intra-borough bridge divides communities, neighborhoods and prohibits access to local services. It is a grossly unfair policy to allow tolls on such bridges. such a toll creates a negative impact on communities by requiring individuals to pay a toll several times a day just to accomplish normal, everyday chores. This is wholly different from the usual bridge toll which is encountered only twice daily by workers to and from their place of employment.

Fiscal implications

Undetermined.

Effective date

This act shall take effect on the sixtieth day after it shall have become a law.
