BILL NUMBER:S1961

Title of bill

An act to amend the agriculture and markets law, in relation to requiring a report of violations by kosher food establishments to be posted on the premises in which business is conducted

Summary

To require kosher food establishments to report violations of the law, by posting a record of such violation, on the premises. This bill amends Section 201-d of the Agriculture and Markets law, to require any hotel, restaurant, caterer, food establishment, or other places where kosher food products are sold for. consumption on or off the premises, to conspicuously post records of any .violation relating to the non-compliance with kosher enforcement laws. The record shall contain the nature of the violation and the sanction or penalty imposed. This record shall be posted for a period of at least six months beginning with the date the sanction or penalty is imposed.

Justification

Currently, the kosher consumer has no knowledge of which food establishment, hotel or caterer, have been cited for_ violating kosher enforcement laws. In the past we have found establishments in violation of numerous kosher enforcement laws, yet they operated as if nothing had occurred, and the consumer was left blind to these facts. This bill would give the consumer that knowledge of who has been in violation of what laws, by requiring the establishment to report the violation by posting them for all to see, on the premises.

Fiscal implication

None.

Effective date

This act shall take effect on the one hundred twentieth day after it shall have become a law, with provisions.
