BILL NUMBER:S2153B

Title of bill

An act to amend the highway law, in relation to the designation of the "Rensselaer County Korean War Veterans Memorial Highway"

Purpose

This bill will honor the bravery and sacrifices of those Veterans who defended the freedom of South Korean citizens between June 25, 1950 and July 27, 1953.

Summary of provisions

This bill will designate the portion of Route 7 transecting the City of Troy as the "Korean War Veterans Memorial Highway."

Existing law

None.

Justification

In defending South Korea from the communist aggression of North Korea, 36,940 American soldiers gave their lives, 92,134 troops suffered wounds, and 8,176 military personnel went missing in action. To honor these brave men and women, and all members of the armed forces that served during the Korean War, the Korean War Veterans Association sought the assistance of the New York State Senate and Assembly. Recognizing the importance of this dedication, members of both the Rensselaer County Legislature and Troy City Council unanimously passed resolutions in support of this effort.
