BILL NUMBER:S2159

Title of bill

An act to amend chapter 442 of the laws of 2008, relating to authorizing the reinstatement of Eric M. Jukes as an employee of the department of civil service and authorizing the village of Nassau to hire Officer Jukes to fill a full-time competitive position with the village of Nassau police department, in relation to making technical corrections thereto

Summary of provisions

Section 1. Amends chapter 442 of the laws of 2008 by striking that portion that reinstated Officer Jukes as a civil service employee eligible for permanent appointment in the competitive class of the civil service, and renumbering the sections accordingly.

Section 2. Effective date immediately.

Justification

Chapter 442 of the laws of 2008 allows Eric Jukes, age 37, and currently a part-time police officer for the village of Nassau, to be appointed in the competitive class of civil service and to be hired as a full-time police officer in the village, notwithstanding the 35 year old limitation set forth in section 58 of the Civil Service Law. This bill amends the chapter by removing the portion thereof that made Jukes generally eligible for permanent appointment in the competitive class of the civil service, and limits his permanent full-time hiring to a position in the village.
