BILL NUMBER:S2336
Title of bill
An act to amend chapter 654 of the laws of 1927, relating to joint water works systems, in relation to compensation paid to members of the board of trustees of the Westchester joint water works
Purpose
To allow the Westchester Joint Water Works, a non-profit utility, the authority to increase the per meeting compensation of the members of the Board of Trustees.
Summary of provisions
Section 1 amends Subdivision 7 of section 3 of chapter 654 of the laws of 1927, as amended by chapter 232 of the laws of 2006, raising the limit of trustee compensation up to $200 per meeting.
Justification
The members of the Board of Trustees had not had an increase in compensation for over 15 years, prior to 2006; a slight increase was authorized from the prior per meeting amount ($60), but the complexity of running the utility has added a significant number of hours to their management responsibilities. They have requested the authority to consider an increase for an amount not to exceed $200 per meeting. Any actual increase will be the decision of the Board of Trustees, all of whom are the chief elected officials of the jurisdictions served by the Joint Water Works: the Town of Mamaroneck, the Village of Mamaroneck, and the Town/Village of Harrison.
