BILL NUMBER:S2635A
Title of bill
An act to authorize the commissioner of general services to transfer and convey certain unappropriated state land to the Bay Shore union free school district
Purpose
To allow the commissioner of general services to convey an abandoned state armory to the Bay Shore union free school district.
Summary of provisions
The bill authorizes the commissioner of general services to transfer and convey to the Bay Shore Union Free School District the abandoned state armory located at 70 Brentwood Road, Bay Shore, New York in consideration of one dollar. Such transfer is contingent on the Bay Shore union free school district making application to the office of general services within one year of this bill becoming law. Lastly, the bill provides that title to the parcel in question shall revert back to the State should the Bay Shore UFSD cease using it.
Justification
The Bay Shore Union Free School District (Bay Shore) is working with the New York State Division of Military and Naval Affairs (DMNA) and the Office of General Services to acquire the Bay Shore Armory located at 70 Brentwood Road, Bay Shore, New York upon the departure of the New York Army National Guard units stationed there. Bay Shore intends to use the DMNA property for educational purposes to meet the needs of the school district. This bill would allow OGS to transfer to Bay Shore this excess state property at a nominal value.
