BILL NUMBER:S2980A
Title of bill
An act to amend the highway law, in relation to the designation of the "General Casimir Pulaski Highway"
Purpose
To designate state highway route 104 from the Genesee River to the Irondequoit Bay bridge, "General Casimir Pulaski highway."
Summary of provisions
Section 1: The highway law is amended by adding new section 343-y which designates state highway route 104 from the Genesee River to the Irondequoit Bay bridge, "General Casimir Pulaski Highway." Section 2: Directs that the commissioner of transportation shall provide for the installation and maintenance of signing. Also states that this designation is ceremonial and the official name will not change. Section 3: Effective Date.
Justification
General Casimir Pulaski was a Polish soldier who has been called "the father of American cavalry." From 1777 until his death, General Pulaski fought heroically for the independence of the United States. General Pulaski is a heroic figure in American History and in particular is an important war hero to Polish-Americans. Therefore, it is appropriate to name a section of state highway 104 after General Pulaski since it is an area with a large concentration of Polish-American residents who would be honored to be able to pay tribute to this highly regarded individual.
