BILL NUMBER:S2988

Title of bill

An act to amend the highway law, in relation to the north fork wine trail in the Long Island wine region

Purpose

The "Long Island Wine Region" is inclusive to the "North Fork Wine Trail" and the "Hamptons Wine Trail". This bill is to designate certain portions of the state highway system for inclusion in the "North Fork Wine Trail".

Summary of provisions

This bill will include certain portions of the state highway system in the North Fork Wine Trail. Specifically the "North Fork Wine Trail" will be set to all that portion of the state highway system in the county of Suffolk beginning at exit 71 of Interstate 495, thence generally easterly along state route 24 to its intersection with county route 105, thence generally northerly along county route 105 to its intersection with state route 25, thence generally easterly along state 25 to the intersection of route 48 and route 25, thence easterly along state route 25 to its eastern terminus and westerly along county route 48 (alternatively known as North Road, Middle Road, Sound A venue) from its eastern terminus to its intersection with Edwards A venue, and thence generally southerly along Edwards A venue to its intersection with interstate 495, shall be designated and known as the "North Fork Wine Trail"

Justification

The "North Fork Wine Trail" has been extremely successful in helping Suffolk County wineries attract customers. This designation has been successful for the existing wineries and this extension will allow new wineries to also participate in the North Fork Wine Trail.
