BILL NUMBER:S320
Title of bill
An act to amend the vehicle and traffic law, in relation to allowing retired service members to qualify for distinctive license plates
Purpose
To allow retired service members to qualify for distinctive license plates.
Summary of provisions
Section 1 amends section 404-d of the vehicle and traffic laws to include retired service members in the list of those organized militia members who may request distinctive license plates.
Justification
Currently any active member of the organized militia of the State of New York and any member of a reserve unit from this state of the armed forces of the United States may apply for a distinctive plate. This bill would allow retired members to qualify for these plates as well. Although retired from active duty, these persons have served their country and are also deserving of the opportunity to receive these license plates if they wish to do so.
