BILL NUMBER:S3242

Title of bill

An act to amend the highway law, in relation to designating a certain portion of state route 15A the "Lima Veterans Memorial Highway"

Purpose

This bill would designate a portion of State Route 15A, running within the boundaries of the town of Lima in Livingston County as the "Lima Veterans Memorial Highway".

Summary of provisions

Section 1. The highway law is amended by adding a new section 342-xx that designates the portion of state route 15a that runs through the boundaries of the Town of Lima as the "Lima Veterans Memorial Highway".

Justification

The Town of Lima has a rich history of its residents serving the United States in all of our nation's armed conflicts - at home or abroad. Originally founded by Revolutionary War veterans, Lima's residents bear a proud tradition of having participated in everyone of our nation's major wars, from the town's Revolutionary War inception to the recent conflicts in Iraq and Afghanistan. This legislation is a tribute to their invaluable contribution to these past and current struggles, and a way of expressing a special thanks for their selfless courage and unfailing martial spirit.
