Title of bill
An act to amend the town law and the public officers law, in relation to authorizing town justices in the town of Genesee, in the county of Allegany, to reside outside such town
Purpose
This bill will authorize the Town of Genesee, in the county of Allegany, to utilize town justices who reside outside the Town of Genesee.
Summary of provisions
New York State Town Law is amended such that the town justice of the Town of Genesee, in Allegany County, need not reside in the Town of Genesee.
Section 2 states that a person residing outside the Town of Genesee in Allegany County, shall not be prevented from holding the position of town justice in the Town of Genesee.
Justification
This legislation will allow the Town of Genesee to select the most qualified person to be the Town Justice of the Town of Genesee, as long as they are a resident of Allegany County. Without this legislation the Town of Genesee would be limited to only being able to choose a town justice from within the Town of Genesee itself.
This legislation has been requested by the Town of Genesee.
