BILL NUMBER:S4066A

Title of bill

An act to amend the executive law, in relation to health care proxy information on state agency websites

Purpose or general idea of bill

The purpose of this legislation is to ensure that state agency websites provide a link or access to health care proxy forms, except when this may cause financial hardship or when a website lacks sufficient traffic to justify hosting this document.

Summary of specific provisions

This bill would amend section 104 of the executive law.

Justification

Individuals deserve to have their health care wishes honored, yet a large majority of New York residents do not have a health care proxy for times when they cannot express their health care preferences. As a result, their wishes are often unknown, and they might be given medical treatment that they would not want or not be given treatment that matches their choices. By hosting health care proxy forms on state agency websites, more New Yorkers will have access to and be able to use this document.

Prior legislative history

Effective date
