Title of bill

An act to amend the general municipal law, in relation to allowing the governing body of Westchester county to appoint a member of the Westchester county industrial development agency

Purpose or general idea of bill

To allow the presiding officer of the Westchester County Legislature to appoint a member of the Westchester County Industrial Development agency, subject to confirmation of such governing body.

Summary of specific provisions

Section 1 of the bill amends Section 923-a of the general municipal law as amended by Chapter 564 of the Laws of 1983 to change the number of members of the Westchester County Industrial Board to eight members and allows that one member shall be appointed by the presiding officer of the governing body of the county of Westchester, subject to confirmation by its governing body, who may be a member of such governing body. The member appointed shall be a nonvoting member.,

Section 2 of the bill is the effective date.

Justification

This measure provides for greater oversight and accountability of economic development projects and initiatives of the Westchester County Industrial Development Agency by having a member appointed by the elected County Legislature serve on the IDA board.
