BILL NUMBER:S4452

Title of bill

An act to repeal the wage theft prevention act

Purpose

To repeal the wage theft prevention act.

Summary of provisions

Section 1. Chapter 564 of the laws of 2010, constituting the Wage Theft Prevention Act, is REPEALED.

Justification

Currently, New York State has in place some of the most anti-business laws in the country, which are making it increasingly difficult for businesses to justify remaining in the state. A number of long-standing and successful businesses have left or are considering leaving in order to escape New York's unfriendly business environment. Last year the "Wage Theft Prevention Act" was signed into law, which does further harm to these businesses by substantially increasing the burden and potential liability on their companies, when many are already struggling to survive. Repeal of this legislation will serve to remove this costly and unnecessary law which is driving businesses out of New York State.
