BILL NUMBER:S4659

Title of bill

An act to amend chapter 468 of the laws of 2006, amending the highway law relating to access to a certain parkway by certain construction vehicles during a period of landfill remediation, in relation to extending the effectiveness thereof

Summary of provisions

This bill extends for five years, until August 16, 2016, the effectiveness of chapter 468 of the laws of 2006, which authorized the use of the Korean War Veterans Parkway during the remediation of the Brookfield landfill on Staten Island by certain construction vehicles owned and/or operated by the Department of Environmental Protection of the City New York.

Reasons for support

The Brookfield landfill remediation project is a joint project between the New York City Department of Environmental Protection and the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation to clean up the former site of a toxic landfill. This project will require over 120 dump truck trips per day to the site. In order to avoid congestion on local roads, this bill would extend the authorization for certain construction vehicles owned and/or operated by the Department of Environmental Protection to use the Korean War Veterans Parkway.

Accordingly, the Mayor urges the earliest possible favorable consideration of this proposal by the Legislature.
