BILL NUMBER:S4832
Title of bill
An act in relation to empowering the governor of the state of New York to appoint either the New York state department of transportation or the New York city department of transportation to take the leading role in coordinating projects within New York city costing over twenty million dollars
Purpose
The purpose of this bill is to organize the multiple layers of jurisdiction over transportation projects in New York City by appointing a lead representative to act as a coordinator between each agency and implement a system to prevent any unnecessary or redundant construction work.
Summary of provisions
Section 1: Definitions
1. Defines applicable transportation projects 2. States the authority of the Governor 3. Defines Coordination
Section 2: Effective Date
Justification
The city of New York and the state of New York have hundreds of individual transportation construction projects in New York City being planned and overseen by each separate agency and authority at anyone time. Without communication between the responsible parties, time, labor, and resources, are wasted and there is a major impact on local traffic and pedestrians. Appointing a leader to coordinate traffic projects allows greater efficiency in all areas of traffic construction.
