Title of bill

An act to amend the tax law, in relation to the transportation service sales tax; and to repeal certain provisions of such law relating thereto

Purpose or general idea of bill

To repeal provisions of the tax law which were implemented in the 09-10 budget creating a new tax on transportation services.

Summary of specific provisions

Repeals provisions of the tax law which were implemented in the 09-10 budget creating a new tax on transportation services.

Justification

The Livery industry in New York City, including black cars, limousines and community car services play a vital role in the transportation of individuals in and throughout New York City. The imposition of a sales tax on these services place a hardship on both the businesses providing these vital services and the residents and individuals who rely on such transportation services for many socio-economic purposes. Furthermore, the unfair application of this burdensome tax on only portion of the livery industry has Placed such portion at a competitive disadvantage, potentially threatening the livelihoods of thousands of individuals.
