BILL NUMBER:S5434
Title of bill
An act to authorize the assessors of the town of Whitestown and the village of New York Mills to accept an application for real property tax exemption from New York Mills Historical Society for certain parcels of land in such village and town
Purpose
This bill would allow assessors of the Town of Whitestown and Village of New York Mills to accept an application for a property tax exemption from the New York Mills Historical Society.
Summary of provisions
Section one of the bill would authorize the assessors of the Town of Whitestown and the Village of New York Mills to accept an application for real property tax exemption from the New York Mills Historical Society for the parcel currently owned by this not-for-profit located at 96 Main Street in the Village of New York Mills for the 2010 assessment rolls.
Section two shall provide for an immediate effective date.
Justification
This legislation has been requested by the New York Mills Historical Society, a not-for-profit organization located in the Village of New York Mills (Oneida county). The New York Mills Historical Society moved its location to 96 Main Street in the Village of New York Mills in 2010, but did not acquire such property until after the taxable status date. Due to the timing of the acquisition, they were unable to apply and receive a real property tax exemption for the 2010 assessment roll. This legislation will authorize the Village of New York Mills and the Town of Whitestown to accept a retroactive application for the 2010 tax year.
