BILL NUMBER:S5609
Title of bill
An act in relation to discontinuing the collection of tolls at the Grand Island bridges in the Niagara section of the New York state thruway
Purpose or general idea of bill
This legislation would eliminate the collection of tolls at Grand Island Bridge.
Summary of specific provisions
Section 1 of the bill directs the New York State Thruway Authority shall discontinue the collection of tolls at the Grand Island Bridges.
Justification
The Grand Island Bridges are the only way to get off and onto Grand Island. By placing a toll on these bridges the State of New York has placed a commuter tax on the residents and businesses who are located there. Repeal of this unfair tax is long overdue to the hardworking men and women of Grand Island.
