BILL NUMBER:S5639

Title of bill

An act in relation to granting Marie Watkins Morey Tier I status in the New York state teachers' retirement system

Purpose

The purpose of this legislation is to allow Marie Morey to retroactively transfer her membership in the New York State Teachers Retirement System from Tier 3 to Tier 1.

Summary of provisions

Section 1 states Marie Morey, a current member of the New York State Teachers Retirement System was erroneously never included in the New York State Employees Retirement System when she worked for Middletown State Hospital in 1972. Since then she now has transferred her membership to the New York State Teachers Retirement System assigned to Tier 3 but should rather be assigned to Tier 1.

Justification

This bill would allow Ms. Morey to be reinstated to Tier 1 where she would have been if she was entered into the retirement system when she first started her employment with the state in 1972.
