BILL NUMBER:S5640
Title of bill
An act to amend chapter 420 of the laws of 1998, relating to the creation of the Piermont library district, in relation to the polling place and hours of voting for library elections
Purpose or general idea of bill
To change the polling place of the Library Elections to the Dennis P. McHugh Piermont Public Library, and extend the. hours of voting to between 11:00 a.m. until 8:30 p.m.
Summary of specific provisions
To Amend Subdivision 2 of Section 2 of chapter 420 of the Laws of 1998 to read:
The polling place for the annual election shall be the Dennis P. McHugh Piermont Public library, and the polls shall remain open from 11:00 a.m. until 8:30 p.m.
Justification
The adjusted voting hours and changed venue better reflect the community's voting patterns. The hours will allow the library board to provide the proper supervision within their budget. Changing the library election polling place from the Piermont Village Hall TO the actual library will provide more parking which will be handicapped accessible. The library has many more parking spaces than the previous venue. Because this new arrangement is far more convenient than the previous one, the Board expects an increased voter turnout.
