Title of bill
An act to amend the general municipal law, in relation to training of fire officers in cities of one million or more
Purpose
Adds a new section 209-ff to the general municipal law, requiring train- ing of NYC fire officers in changes to building and construction codes and local ordinances in NYC.
Justification
New fire and building codes took effect in NYC on July 1, 2008. Since then there has not been any significant effort to train fire officers in the numerous changes to the codes. This legislation would require a minimum of 40 hours of field training and 40 hours of classroom instruc- tion to be completed no later than July 1, 2014.
