BILL NUMBER:S6558
Title of bill
An act to provide for the payment of universal prekindergarten program aid for the 2009-2010 school year to the Dansville central school district
Purpose
This bill provides for the payment of universal prekindergarten program aid for the 2009-2010 school year to the Dansville central school district.
Summary of provisions
Section 1 of this bill provides that the failure of Dansville central school district to timely file its 2009-2010 notice of fully implemented universal prekindergarten program form shall not prohibit the education department from making payment of such aid in a timely manner, provided that the school district submits this form on or before April 1, 2012.
Section 2 provides the effective date.
Justification
While filing an application to receive Universal Pre-Kindergarten (UPK) funding from the New York State Education Department (NYSED), an error was made by the Dansville central School District. This error, resulting in a failure to submit the "2009-2010 Notice of Fully Implemented UPK Program," was immediately corrected.
This bill would allow the NYSED to forgive this error and allow Dansville Central School District to recoup the much-needed UPK aid that it expected.
