BILL NUMBER:S6562

Title of bill

An act to amend the alcoholic beverage control law, in relation to permitting licensees authorized to sell liquor at retail for consumption off the premises to sell additional related items

Purpose

To permit the sale of additional items related to the sale of liquor and wine.

Summary of provisions

Section 1. Subdivision 4 of section 63 of the alcoholic beverage control law is amended by adding: additional items related to the sale of liquor, including but not limited to novelty clothing, liquor and wine accessories, glassware, pre-packaged gift baskets containing liquor or wine with accessories, liquor candy, gift bags and books.

Justification

In recent years, the sale of wine products has become a larger part of tourism in New York State. The expansion of wine trails and direct interstate shipments have made operating a wine store a more attractive business venture. Allowing these stores to sell additional items related to the sale of liquor and wine will enhance profitability and assist with the promotion of local wine products.
