BILL NUMBER:S6701
Title of bill
An act to authorize the assessor of the county of Nassau to accept an application for exemption from real property tax from the Academy Charter School for a certain parcel of land located in the town of Hempstead
Purpose or general idea of bill
To authorize the Academy Charter School to file an application for a real property tax exemption for a portion of the 2010-2011 assessment roll, and the 2011-2012 assessment roll.
Summary of provisions
Section 1 allows the Academy Charter School to file a retroactive application for real property tax assessment for a portion of the 2010- 2011 tax assessment roll, and for the 2011-2012 assessment roll.
Section 2 provides the act take effect immediately.
Justification
The Academy Charter School purchased property located at 117 N. Franklin Street, Hempstead, on March 30, 2011. The property was purchased for educational purposes, but due to the timing of the closing, its tax exempt status did not become effective until January 18, 2012. Accordingly, this bill allows the organization to retroactively submit an application for a partial exemption for the 2010-2011 assessment roll, and an exemption for the 2011-2012 assessment roll.
