Title of bill

An act to amend the highway law, in relation to designating the New York state route 9P bridge over Fish Creek linking the city of Saratoga Springs and the town of Saratoga as the "Saratoga County Veterans' Memorial Bridge"

Purpose or general idea of bill

This Bill relates to renaming the bridge on State Route 9P between Saratoga Springs and the town of Saratoga in commemoration of the Veterans of Saratoga County.

Summary of specific provisions

Section 1: Amends the Highway Law by creating a new section 344-a designating the bridge over the Fish Creek between the city of Saratoga Springs and the town of Saratoga as the "Saratoga County Veterans Memorial Bridge."

Section 2: States that the commissioner of transportation shall take care of the installation and maintenance of the new name, and signing of the bridge. And to avoid confusion, the renaming of the bridge will only be of a ceremonial nature, and the official name of the bridge will not be changed.

Section 3: States that this act will take effect immediately.

Justification

Saratoga County wishes to rename the 9P bridge in honor of the area's Veterans, as well as to serve as a reminder to us all of the sacrifice and service our nation's troops provide us with. This request was made by resolution 61-12, from the Saratoga County Board of Supervisors.
