BILL NUMBER:S7014
Title of bill
An act to amend the education law, in relation to contracting with public libraries by boards of cooperative educational services
Purpose
This bill allows public libraries to contract with boards of cooperative educational services.
Summary of provisions
Section 1: Education Law Section 1950 is amended to allow public libraries to contract with boards of cooperative educational services.
Section 2 sets forth an immediate effective date.
Justification
Without express statutory language, public libraries and boards of cooperative educational services have been denied the opportunity to contract with one another. In many instances there are services that would be mutually beneficial for public libraries and boards of cooperative educational services to share with one another. This bill would allow the two entities to enter into contracts with one another without further hindrance. Furthermore, it will encourage cost savings and efficiencies.
