BILL NUMBER:S958C
Title of bill
An act to amend the parks, recreation and historic preservation law, in relation to requiring a solar powered trash compacting garbage receptacle pilot program
Purpose
The purpose of this bill is to encourage a more efficient method of collecting and disposing of waste in public spaces in the state of New York.
Summary of provisions
This legislation amends the parks, recreation and historic preservation law by adding a new section, 3.27.
Justification
Trash collection is a necessary but high cost action for governments. The goal is to reduce time, waste, and make collection of trash more efficient. A solar powered trash compacting garbage receptacle can store 5 times the amount of trash as a standard receptacle. with the use of wireless technology to monitor real-time waste levels, a manager can deploy staff as necessary to the receptacle, rather than conducting arbitrary pick-ups, therefore reducing fuel costs, staff costs, and C02 emissions.
