BILL NUMBER:S2457A

Title of bill

An act to amend the tax law and the state finance law, in relation to gifts for autism awareness and research

Purpose

Provides for gifts on tax returns for autism awareness and research.

Summary of provisions

Section 1 - The tax law is amended by adding a new section 630-d.

Justification

This bill would create a new personal income tax check off for taxpayers who wish to contribute a certain amount of their money to be used for autism education awareness and research. Since 1996 there were 3,416 cases of autism of school-age students aged 4-21. That number has increased to 13,622 as of 2005. This check off will assist New York State's educators and caregivers with funds they need to help those with autism.
