BILL NUMBER:S2564A
Title of bill
An act to amend the environmental conservation law, in relation to waiving certain fishing and hunting fees for certain members of the military serving in combat or subject to hostile fire
Purpose
To allow Honorably Discharged Veterans who served in a period of war to receive--free of charge--a fishing license, a small and big game license, and a trapping license.
Summary of provisions
Section One - Subdivision 2 of Section 11-0715 of the Environmental Conservation Law is amended to provide that for a period of five years commencing after an honorable discharge, a Veteran is entitled to receive the following triumvirate of licenses free of charge, for a period of five years: fishing, small and big game, and trapping.
Section Two - This act would take effect immediately.
Justification
Current law provides free hunting and fishing licenses to certain enumerated classes of individuals, such as those over the age of seventy, members of certain indigenous tribes, and active members of the armed forces. It seems entirely logical to extend this minute modicum of courtesy to Honorably Discharged War Veterans, who fought for every light and privilege that we enjoy at every moment of every day.
