BILL NUMBER:S3775
Title of bill
An act to authorize certain part-time police officers employed by the village of Montgomery, in the county of Orange, to take the competitive civil service examination and be placed on the eligible list for appointment as a full-time police officer for such village
Purpose
Allows Brian Briere, James Coscette, Joseph Feola, and Curt McDermott to take the competitive civil service examination for full-time police officer.
Summary of provisions
Section 1: Brian Briere, James Coscette, Joseph Feola, and Curt McDermott to take the competitive civil service examination for full-time police officer.
Section 2: Brian Briere, James Coscette, Joseph Feola and Curt McDermott shall otherwise be subject to the merit and fitness provisions of the civil service law applicable to full-time police officers.
Section 3: Effective Date.
Justification
Section 58 of the New York State Civil Service Law prohibits an individual over the age of 35 from taking the competitive civil service examination for the position of police officer. Brian Briere, James Coscette, Joseph Feola and Curt McDermott are currently part-time police officers for the Village of Montgomery. These officers are in good standing and physically capable of performing the job duties of a full-time police officer. This legislation is necessary to allow these part-time officers to be converted to full time and will save the village financially over a long period of time.
