An act to amend the environmental conservation law, in relation to the periodic preparation of a state deer management plan by the department of environmental conservation

Purpose

Relates to the periodic preparation of a state deer management plan by the Department of Environmental Conservation.

Summary of provisions

Section 11-0305 of the Environmental Conservation Law is amended by adding a new subdivision 19 relating to the preparation of a state deer management plan for the white-tailed deer (Odocoileus virginianus) by the Department of Environmental Conservation.

Justification

Updating the New York State Deer Management Plan every five years will ensure that new scientific research, studies, and findings are appropriately incorporated into recommendations for controlling deer population throughout the State. This bill will also ensure that new technologies in hunting and fertility control are reviewed periodically for consideration.
