Title of bill

An act to amend chapter 303 of the laws of 1988 relating to the extension of the state commission on the restoration of the capitol, in relation to extending such provisions for an additional five years

Purpose of the Bill:

The purpose of this bill is to extend the authority of the State Commission on the Restoration of the Capitol for an additional five years from April 1, 2013 to April 1, 2018.

Summary of Provisions:

Section 1 of this bill amends Chapter 303 of the L. 1988, c. 303 as amended by L. 2008, c.92 to extend for an additional five years the State Commission on the Restoration of the Capitol. The Commission was extended in 1988, 1993, 1998, 2003 and 2008 for five-year periods.

Existing Law:

The Commission has the duty to undertake studies and reports to recommend and advise with respect to the restoration, preservation, improvement and utilization of the Capitol and its grounds. Its members are appointed by the Governor and the leadership of the Legislature. It was authorized in 1979 and reauthorized annually until 1988 when it was continued for five years. It was further continued in 1993, 1998; 2003 and 2008 for additional five-year periods. It is currently set to expire on April 1, 2013.

Prior Legislative History:

The sunset provision in question has previously been extended by five-year extenders enacted by L. 1988, c.303; L. 1993, c. 31; L. 1998, c. 25; L. 2003, c. 37; and L. 2008, c. 92.
