BILL NUMBER:S4930C

Title of bill

An act to prohibit the sale, dispensing, provision and cultivation of marihuana for any purpose

Purpose

Prohibits the sale, giving away, provision and cultivation of marihuana for any reason, regardless of otherwise authorized by law.

Summary of provisions

Continues to apply the criminal provisions of the penal law relating to the sale and possession of marihuana notwithstanding any future changes to the laws of the state of New York which may authorize the sale and cultivation of marihuana.

Justification

Medical marihuana dispensaries would be a harmful addition to our communities in New York State. We would be exacerbating many problems within our society with the allowance of medical marihuana dispensaries including but not limited to: health consequences related to marihuana, increased youth substance abuse, drugged driving, and violence related to robberies surrounding dispensaries, "grow" houses and distribution.
