Title of bill

An act to authorize St. Peter and Paul Ukrainian Catholic Church to apply for exemption from real property taxes pursuant to section 420-a of the real property tax law

Purpose

To authorize St. Peter and Paul Ukrainian Catholic Church to apply for exemption from real property taxes pursuant to section 420-a of the real property tax law.

Summary of provisions

Section 1 allows the assessor of the Town of Ramapo, of Rockland County, to accept and review an application from the St. Peter and Paul Ukrainian Catholic Church for a nonprofit real property tax exemption for the 2010 assessment roll, as if it had been received on or before the applicable taxable status date.

In addition, Section 1 allows the assessor of the Village of Spring Valley, of Rockland County, to accept and review an application from the St. Peter and Paul Ukrainian Catholic Church for a nonprofit real property tax exemption for the 2011 assessment toll, as if it had been received on or before the applicable taxable status date.

Section 2 provides for an immediate effective date.

Justification

The St. Peter and Paul Ukrainian Catholic Church is a nonprofit organization that would be otherwise entitled to an exemption under Section 420-a of the Real Property Tax Law had the organization filed an application for the exemption by the appropriate taxable status date.
