BILL NUMBER:S5013

Title of bill

An act authorizing the assessor of the town of Clarkstown, county of Rockland, to accept from Ralph Riverso an application for exemption from real property taxes under the STAR exemption

Purpose

To provide Ralph Riverso, a resident of the town of Clarkstown, the opportunity to receive the STAR exemption and refunds for the 2005-06, 2006-07 and 2007-08 assessment rolls which were not paid to him due to an error in the assessor's office.

Summary of provisions

Provides Mr. Riverso, the right to receive STAR exemptions for those years provided he was otherwise entitled to the exemption. The bill also provides for the Town of Clarkstown to refund the amount of the exemption which is due to him.

Justification

Through no fault of Mr. Riverso, an error was made on his assessment. This bill will allow the Town of Clarkstown to correct the error which resulted in Mr. Riverso being deprived of his STAR benefit.
